Chicago Marathon 2022 — Finishing Together

Chicago 2022 came just one week after London. My body was tired before the race even began. The miles from London were still deep in my legs. I knew this wouldn’t be about pace or performance. This race had a different purpose. This time, I wasn’t alone. I traveled to Chicago with my wife and my two sons, Jibran and Zahran. I wanted them to see the joy of running—the discipline, the struggle, and the finish. I also wanted to spend time with my wife’s uncle and aunt, who supported us throughout our stay. Their hospitality and encouragement meant a great deal to us, and I remain deeply grateful.

Race morning felt calm. No pressure. No expectations. Just movement. From the early miles, fatigue was real. My legs reminded me constantly that I had already raced a marathon days earlier. I adjusted. Slowed down. Listened. Chicago’s course is honest. Flat and fast for some—but long for everyone. Each mile asked the same question: can you keep going?

At mile 20, everything changed. I saw my family. Seeing my wife and my sons cheering gave me energy I didn’t think I had left. That moment alone was worth every difficult mile before it. The final stretch was tough. I ran, slowed, and pushed again. There was no quitting—only managing discomfort and staying present.

I crossed the finish line just over 5 hours. After finishing, I met a few other Bangladeshi runners and took pictures with them. Sharing that moment of pride and connection reminded me that running builds community beyond borders. Chicago was beautiful. Not because it was easy—but because it was shared.

Lesson from Marathon 7

Sometimes the strongest finish isn’t measured by time. It’s measured by who you finish with.
